One of my favorite summertime drinks is one that I get at my local Sonic drive-in. The cherry limeade. I just think about it and my mouth starts to water. This magical beverage was discovered when our youngest daughter, Corrie, was in kindergarten. I would pack Jr {just 4 months old at the time} in his car seat and we would pick Corrie up from school.
Since the older kids still had a few hours of school left, Corrie and I would head off to Sonic for some chicken tenders and a cherry limeade. It was our secret bonding time together. Yes, a secret. As in, we didn’t tell the other kids about it, because there would be fits of envy and jealousy all around. Not to mention the ‘mommy guilt’ that would most certainly come into play. Trust me, when you have five children, some things just have to remain a secret.
Corrie is 16 now, and at 11, my little Jr isn’t so little anymore. We still go to Sonic every once in a while, but mostly for ice cream.
But I still love a good cherry limeade. So much, in fact, that I started making my own. Only, the ones I make are just for the adults.
This is seriously the perfect pool-side drink. And it tastes just like the cherry limeade from Sonic. Only better, because there’s vodka in it.
