This no churn vanilla ice cream recipe is smooth, creamy, made with real vanilla and loaded with SNICKERS!
I have always been a supporter of our troops, thankful for the sacrifices that they make daily.
While I married my husband after he ended his Army career, never having the experience of being an ‘Army wife’, our middle daughter, Carolyn, recently joined the army, giving me a newfound perspective.
We worried constantly as she went through basic training, conditioning for airborne school, airborne school and now AIT {advanced individual training}. This is a subject that is so close to home.
When Carolyn was still in basic training, she wasn’t allowed to have a phone and wasn’t allowed to make phone calls. And, since they didn’t always have time to receive their mail, I made scripture cards that she could read whenever she needed encouragement.
My heart went out to her fellow soldiers who never received, or rarely received, letters from home, so I made and sent extra cards for her to hand out.
Later I found out that some of the soldiers she had given them to had cried when they received them. And, of course, that made me cry, too.
Naturally, my husband and I made the trip to South Carolina for her graduation, and it was amazing. I have never been so proud of my daughter and my country.
So many young men and women willing to serve for the greater good. If you follow me on Instagram, then you may recall my sharing of this pic and video.
The video is how the graduation ceremony began, the soldiers all walking out of the woods. I still cry every single time I watch it.

I’ve always wanted to try my hand at no churn vanilla ice cream, and now seemed like as good a time as any. I found this recipe and decided to give it a try. I added chopped up SNICKERS to make it even more tasty.
*Trivia tidbit- M&M’s were originally created 75 years ago for the troops as part of their rations.
The steps are super simple. The first thing I did was unwrap about half of the SNICKERS® Red, White & Blue minis. Then I chopped them into small pieces and set them aside.
Next, I combined some sweetened condensed milk and real vanilla extract. I’m sure imitation would work, too, but I prefer the real deal. The flavor is just so much better.
In another bowl whip up heavy cream. No need to add sugar.
Take a scoop of the whipped cream and add it to the condensed milk to thin it out. Gently fold the rest of the whipped cream into the mixture.
All that’s left to do is layer the mixture with the chopped SNICKERS® and swirl it in. Then the waiting begins {this is the hardest part!}.
While we’re waiting on the ice cream to harden, here’s a picture Carolyn sent me last week of her and some of the Marines and Air Force soldiers she’s met at AIT. I’m so glad she’s making the kind of friendships and bonds that last a lifetime.
Just before the ice cream is ready to eat, you’re now ready to make these fun edible ice cream bowls! Melt about 4 ounces of melting chocolate {the same kind you would use for dipping strawberries}. Make sure it’s nice and runny.
Gather up some store-bought waffle cone bowls, your melted chocolate and M&M’s® Red, White, & Blue Milk Chocolate. You’ll also need a wax paper covered baking sheet.
Dipping the bowls in the chocolate is actually a bit on the messy side, and you can’t really control how much chocolate gets on the bowl. In order for it to dry quickly, you really only want a thin layer. I used the back of a spoon to add the chocolate, but a small spatula would also work really well.
Since the chocolate dries quickly, you’ll need to add the M&M’s® right away. I used a red, white and blue pattern. Once you’ve got your bowls decorated, pop them in the refrigerator for a couple of minutes to help the chocolate set.
Now the real fun begins! Take your no churn vanilla ice cream out of the freezer and put a generous scoop in each bowl.
I can’t wait to make this for Carolyn when she’s finally able to visit home again. We’re hoping for this Christmas, but sooner would definitely be nicer. She’s getting spoiled one way or another.
Do you have a military connection? If so, I’d love to hear your story! With your permission, I’ll share your story on my social media, so we can celebrate our troops together!
