Create a weekend worthy brunch any day of the week with these simple tips and this fabulous recipe for Apple Cinnamon French Toast. In the slow cooker, no less.
When it comes to breakfast, I prefer brunch. A weekend worthy brunch, to be exact. What makes a brunch weekend worthy? I’m so glad you asked.
How to Create a Weekend Worthy Brunch
Invite Your Friends – Let’s face it, everything is better with friends and family, especially brunch. Just keep these numbers in mind: roughly 75% of people invited will attend, if they are close friends.
That being said, if it’s an intimate brunch you’re looking for, inviting 15 close friends means you can expect about 11 of them to attend.
Create a Mimosa Bar – A brunch just isn’t a brunch without mimosas, let alone a weekend worthy brunch. You’ll want to offer a variety of juices in addition to the classic orange, such as cranberry, grapefruit or even something exotic, like mango.
Keep the Menu Simple – You will save both time and energy by keeping things simple. Create a basic menu: a savory, a side and a sweet. Casseroles are perfect for this, especially when they’re set-it-and-forget-it.
Slow cookers are the family way of putting easy and convenient meals together, and McCormick has the perfect slow cooker breakfast flavors.
The Good Morning Slow Cooker seasoning packets add fresh and rich flavor to any egg casserole or French toast.
Plus, you can set up your mimosa bar, add flowers to your table and heat that bacon while it cooks. (Find McCormick Good Morning Slow Cooker seasoning packets here)
I’m seriously itching to try the Mexican Egg Casserole next!
OK, let’s make that French toast!
Apple Cinnamon French Toast Recipe
I can’t even begin to tell you how easy this recipe is.
First, start with a loaf of French bread. Whatever you do, don’t use sandwich bread, unless you want a gooey, mushy mess.
OK, now cut that into cubes.
Next, whisk the Good Morning Slow Cooker seasoning packet, milk, sugar and eggs in a bowl.
Then, add the cubed bread and mix well.
Now, spray your slow cooker pot with non-stick spray, then add the mixture to it.
Cover the slow cooker with a clean dish towel, then place the lid on top of that. This will help prevent moisture buildup.
Set your slow cooker and forget it (the best part!). Go set your table, and set up that mimosa bar.
Your french toast will be ready in about 1 1/2 hours, or when the top no longer looks wet.
For even more flavor, make a simple glaze with sugar and milk. Then, put it in a pretty bowl for guests to drizzle on their French toast.
