When it comes to cooking and baking, I’m the queen of easy. No, seriously, I’ve got a crown to prove it. That’s just one of the things I love about this steamed cauliflower.
I also love the spicy, tangy flavors of the ground mustard and Miracle Whip.
It goes great with chicken, pork or even beef – basically anything! The fact that it’s covered with gooey cheese is a total bonus.
I learned how to make this steamed cauliflower dish several years ago when Mark and I were having dinner at an acquaintance’s house.
She made it a little differently, and I wasn’t keen on her method, so, I changed it up a bit. A little steaming, a little baking, and you’ll have this cauliflower side dish on the table in about 20 minutes.

Making Steamed Cauliflower
Helpful Tools
- Steam Pot – I wish I had room in my kitchen for mine! Since we are living in an RV at the moment, I used crumpled foil in the bottom of a saucepan. However, the steamer pot is my absolute first choice!
- Casserole Baking Dish – This dish is very similar in size to the one I have and I love it! It’s perfect for easy tamale pie and cheesy jalapeño artichoke dip.
- Cheese Grater – This is one item I can’t live without. You can grate directly into the removable, clear container which stores directly inside the grater. Plus, it features a 2-cup capacity & easy to read measurement markings shown on the side. Perfect!
- Spreader – We use our spreader knife mainly for sandwiches, but it also works perfectly for spreading the Miracle Whip on the steamed cauliflower.
Steamed Cauliflower Instructions
First, crumple your foil into a loose ball and add about an inch of water to the pan
Next, core the cauliflower and then set it on top of the loose ball of foil.
Cover with a lid and steam over medium-low heat for 10 minutes.
Once the cauliflower is tender, but not mushy, remove from pan and place it in a shallow baking dish.
Use a spreader knife to spread the Miracle Whip all over the top.
Next, you’ll want to generously sprinkle dry mustard on top.
You’re now ready for the best part, the shredded cheese. Top the steamed cauliflower with a good cup of shredded cheddar. You can use mild, medium or sharp, whichever you like best.
All it takes is literally 5 minutes in the oven and you’ve got a cheesy side dish that’s low-carb and ready to be served.
