When I think of St Patrick’s Day, my mind automatically drifts to bad memories of the threat of being pinched. No matter how hard I would try to remember to wear green, I would inevitably forget. The result? I spent much of the day trying to convince my schoolmates that my underwear was green. Needless to say- not one of my favorite days of the year. This Shamrock Tumbler has made me feel better about the infamous holiday.
Whip up a set for the family or have everyone make their own. Either way, these tumblers are a perfectly fun way to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day.
Supplies:
Glass Tumbler
Metallic Gold Sharpie {fine point}
Green Sharpie Oil-Based Paint Marker (I used extra fine, but fine would work just as well)
Shamrock stencil (I made my own, using my cutting machine and vinyl)
Position your stencil where you want your shamrock to appear on the tumbler and either adhere stencil with tape, {if using pre-made stencil}, or peel off the backing from vinyl {if using a cutting machine}. Using the green oil based paint marker, outline the shamrock, being careful not to let marker get under the stencil.
Next, shade in shamrock using a small circular motion. This will help prevent line marks on the glass. Let dry for a couple of minutes.
Carefully peel the stencil off of glass and outline the shamrock with the metallic gold Sharpie pen. You will need to do this a couple of times, but it will stay, promise!
If you find that some of the green bled through the stencil, you can simply wipe off with a little rubbing alcohol, just be sure it’s completely dry before you proceed to the next step.
The markers are both scratch and water resistant, but you may still want to set the design. Simply place tumbler in a cold oven and set temp to 350 degrees. Once oven temp reaches 350 degrees, bake for 30 minutes.
Leaving the tumbler in the oven until the oven is cold will help prevent the glass from cooling too quickly and breaking.
That’s it! Now you and the family are ready to party the evening away with an ice cold soda or even a milkshake!
Do you look for people to pinch or do you play nice?
