Hi, I am Kimber. I usually am blogging all about DIY projects, recipes and everything wonderful for your family and home over at The Pinning Mama, but today I am thrilled to be sharing with you here at {i love} my disorganized life. I have a quick, easy and fun project that you will be able to whip up in a snap to deck your halls.
I don’t know about you, but my three year old seems to have an ever changing and never ending list for what he wants for Christmas. He is finally old enough to grasp the concept of Christmas, and oh, does he ever grasp it. We are working on the concepts of having a giving heart and a gracious spirit, so we needed a place to channel our Christmas excitement. A 5×7 sized frame seemed the perfect size to contain all of the “I wants” for Santa and the chalkboard makes it perfect for his ever changing little mind.
Let’s get to the how to’s!
What you will need for your Chalkboard Santa’s List Frame
- 1 5×7 Laser Cut Frame {You can find these gorgeous little guys in lots of varieties at Michael’s Craft Stores}
- DecoArt Dazzling Metallics Gold Paint
- Cereal box or other chipboard 5×7 or larger
- Americana Chalkboard paint
- Hot glue gun/ glue sticks
- Silhouette cut outs or metallic sharpies
1. First paint your frame with the DecoArt metallic paint. I love this paint because the sheen on the metallic is so brilliant and beautiful.
2. Next cut down your cereal box so that it fits perfectly behind your frame and then paint it with your chalkboard paint. I started out painting the picture side of the box so the back would be nice and brown back. The design on the front was just a hair indented around the designs, so I ended up painting the back instead. If using the colored part on the back bother’s you it might be best to just paint both sides!
3. Once both the frame and chipboard are painted and dry you can use your glue gun to secure the backing on the frame. Make sure to put the glue on to the frame and then put the board on to secure, not the other way around.
4. I used my Silhouette to cut out a quick Santa’s List out of vinyl and transferred it right over to the chalkboard. I have included the cut file I used to make it even easier for you! I love my Silhouette and use it for all sorts of crafty projects. No worries though, if you don’t have a Silhouette you can still get a similar effect by using a metallic sharpie to write your message.
