Ribbon door streamers are an easy DIY project to make for any birthday celebration. These door decorations are reusable, so you can enjoy them year after year.
I just love searching Pinterest for fun ideas, don’t you? Especially when it’s for a celebration. We have a special birthday coming up over here at our house, and I want to do some things I’ve never done before. Obviously, I’ll bake a cake, but I want to decorate the house this year, too.
Like this:
{This is where I would normally link back
to the original source, like an other blog, but in
this case it led me to this Pinterest board}
Cool right? I thought so, too. And then I started thinking. Hmmm… {that’s me thinking}
Do I really want to blow up all those balloons? Ya, not really.
I’ve also seen where you can put tape or crate paper across the door. Too messy.
That’s when I got the idea for these reusable Ribbon Door Streamers.
Make once, use for infinity. OK, well maybe not that long, but you get the idea.
It’s really easy to make these ribbon door streamers, too!
Here’s all you need:
- 1″ webbing {or other type of strap material}
- 7/8″ Ribbon {I used what I had on hand, which was 9-10 different colors. You can use as many/ whatever colors you want}
- Sewing machine {you could always sew it by hand, but that would take considerably longer}
Here’s all you do:
- Measure the inside width of the door {mine was 29″}
- Measure the door to where you want the ribbons to end {I used 45″ since I only wanted to go 1/2 way down the door. I also wanted to be sure I didn’t run out of ribbon}
- Cut enough ribbons to span the door width that you measured {I used 42 ribbons}
- Now cut a piece of webbing the same width as the inside of the door {29″ in my case}
- Using a straight stitch, sew your ribbons on {right-side down}, one or two at a time, slightly overlapping
- When ready to use, simply use push pins or small tacks to hold into place
You now have reusable Ribbon Door Streamers!
I plan on using these for all of the birthdays in our house now. I think it will be a really fun tradition!
What birthday traditions do you have in your family?
