With just three ingredients and one afternoon, you can be eating these deliciously rich, moist and festive OREO cookie balls!
When the holidays come around, the first thing I usually think of is making treats for Christmas Eve. Growing up, my sisters and I would gather in the living room with our parents and have hot cocoa, sparkling cider, finger foods and desserts. My dad would always read the Christmas story to us from the book of Luke in the bible, and then, our favorite part, we would each get to open a gift. I have such fond memories of those gatherings. My husband and I have carried on that tradition with our own children, and they love it just as much as I did growing up.
I love finding fun new treats to make, and my family loves cookies, so I decided to put my own little spin on OREO cookie balls. Since Walmart is my one-stop-shop when I’ve got a list a mile long, I decided to see what kind of OREOS they had available. Luckily for the mint lover in me, they had the Mint Cremé OREOS I was craving. Not only are they in the cookie aisle, but I also found them in the center aisle, too.
This recipe is so super easy to make, it’s perfect for any celebration.
I simply emptied the package of OREOS and one package of Kraft Philadelphia brand cream cheese into a bowl and then mixed it really well until all of the cookies were smashed up with the cream cheese.
Using a small cookie scoop, I scooped out the dough into cookie balls on a cookie sheet lined with waxed paper. Then into the freezer for a bit. Once out, I was able to melt my chocolate for dipping. I used a fork to roll the cookie balls around in the chocolate one at a time.
Then back onto the wax paper and into the freezer again.
Once they were set, I took 7 cookie balls at a time and arranged them in the shape of a wreath. You could arrange all of the cookie balls into one huge wreath, but I opted for several small ones.
Next comes the colored dipping candy. A few discs is all you need. Just place in a resealable bag, heat in the microwave, cut a small hole at the tip of the bag, and draw leaves and holly berries.
