Whenever a birthday or graduation comes along, {and we have had our fair share}, I get kind of excited. I mean, I just love to plan parties. Mark, however, cringes. All he can really focus on is the prep work. And I can’t blame him, really.
Cleaning before, even more cleaning after. And then there’s the in-between part. The part that’s the actual party. He flutters around making sure everyone is doing OK, telling jokes, keeping an eye on all the teenagers. Tons of teenagers.
Our girls don’t lack for friends, that’s for sure. In fact, the last party we had, which was for Christmas, we allowed them to invite some friends. Unfortunately, they inherited my poor math skills, because their idea of ‘some’ is not the math definition of ‘some’. There were over 70 teenagers there.
Um, ya.
So this year, even though my middle daughter Carolyn, {she modeled for me here}, is turning 18 this week, no party. But I still wanted to do something special for her. So I made these Numbered Gift Bags for her. I numbered them from 1-18, one for each year of her age. Instead of all being made from either paper or cloth, I decided to mix it up a bit.
Here’s how I made the Fabric bags:
First, cut a piece of cardboard or card stock so that it will fit inside your bag. It is going to act as a barrier between the front and the back of the bag. It will keep the paint from bleeding through.
Place the desired stencil number on top of your bag. I used a paper plate to hold my paints. Dip a cotton ball in desired paint color and dab it onto the void space of your stencil. You could use a brush, but I was making nine bags, and didn’t want to have to wash/dry the brushes in between colors. Plus it made for easy clean up.
Once the paint is dry, you can fill the bags with gifts or trinkets. Here are some of the things I filled them with:
- Fast food gift card
- Candle
- Nail files
- Candy
- $5 bill
- Blush
- Mini notepads
- Gum
- Gas cash card
- Ponytail holders
- Mini facial tissue pack
- Mini lotion
- Turquoise and sterling silver ring {this is her ‘big’ gift, in addition to the room make over she got}
- Mascara
- Nail polish
- Car freshener
- Body pouf
- Mints
