The holidays are all the same for me.
I usually just run to the store {like a day or two before} and grab random items for their baskets and stockings.
This Valentine’s Day I wanted to do something different for my family.
In keeping with the homemade theme that I went with this past Christmas, I decided that I would make small trinkets and treats to show my affection.
You may remember these flannel blankets that I made my grand babies for Christmas. They were a big hit.
Of course we don’t go all out for Valentine’s Day like we do for Christmas, but I still wanted to make the gifts rather than buy them.
I love to embroider, so these hearts were the perfect project.
The colors are bright and fun, just like Valentine’s Day. Plus, they’re super easy to make!
I found some inexpensive felt at my local discount fabric store {.25c a sheet!} and used embroidery floss that I already had on hand.
I started by folding a sheet of paper in half and drawing half of a heart on the fold. I made my heart about 3 1/2 inches long {on the fold}.
Next, I cut out the heart and laid it flat on a piece of 5×5 felt. Using a pencil, I lightly traced the heart onto the felt and repeated this step with five more pieces of felt.
Aren’t they adorable? You could even add a few drops of essential oils to give them a pretty scent.
They would also make great bean bags for a game of Valentine Toss!
