When Mark and I had been married for just three years, we made a pretty big decision. We left Southern California {where I was born and raised} and moved to Pennsylvania.
With two small children.
Mark’s father was working there and had offered him a job. And, since he was always looking for a better way to support our family, he took it.
While we were there, my mother-in-law {whom I love dearly and never see enough of} taught me how to embroider. I fell in love with it immediately. I love all of the stitches and how different combinations give different looks. The satin stitch is so smooth, the french knot so structured. The back stitch honest and simple.
That was eighteen years {3 children and 2 grandchildren} ago.
I have embroidered off and on through the years, when our busy lives would allow.
I recently picked it up again. I started a set of pillowcases a few months ago, but still have half a pillowcase to go.
I am more of an ‘immediate gratification’ kind of girl, so it’s hard for me to do a project that takes longer than a day or two to complete.
That’s what I love about these little drawstring bags.
Once I drew my design on them, I had them embroidered in about 30 minutes {of course I was watching Downton Abbey at the same time, so I was a little distracted}
I used the same template that I had made for these Embroidered Valentine Hearts.
I simply traced the heart with pencil onto my bags and used the same stitch {the back stitch} and DMC Turkey Red embroidery floss.
The great thing about them is that you can fill them with just about anything. A jewelry box, chocolate rice crispy treats, or even some spiced nuts.
I am so happy with these bags! I think I am going to have a hard time giving them away!
