These easy thumbprint cookies are so simple, you’ll want to make them with the kids! Buttery cookie dough with a hint of sweet jam makes them perfect for Santa!
Now that my granddaughter, Olivia, is a little older {so hard to believe she’s 4!}, she knows who Santa is and can hardly wait for him to bring her presents this year. Both Olivia and her sister, Emma, who is 3, love to bake, so I thought it would be fun for them to bake some cookies for Santa. Emma still hasn’t quite grasped the concept of him, but that didn’t stop her from wanting to make goodies.
While I was doing my regular shopping at Walmart, I found the cutest Bake Like an Elf baking set for kids in the seasonal aisle. It has two measuring cups, a measuring spoon and even cookie recipe cards.
I saw this adorable snowflake plate and picked it up well, since all cookies for Santa need to be on a cute plate, right? I also added the book Once Upon a Northpole Christmas, and it even came with a Find Me Santa Snowflake. I wrapped them all up in a pretty red snowflake bow, and was so excited to give it to them, that I had my daughter’s pick them up and bring them over.
We started baking as soon as they got to the house. We chose the easy thumbprint cookies from the Bake Like an Elf recipe book.
The girls were both eager to help, and did most of the work themselves.
Olivia loves to read, so we couldn’t refuse story time. Emma, on the other hand, was a little too excited from making cookies to keep still for the book. Olivia, however, loved cuddling on the bed with her Aunt Corrie while she read to her.
Next, we set the cookies out for Santa {we thought a practice run of Christmas Eve was in order, and I think she secretly wanted to see if the cookies would trick Santa into giving her her presents early}
I think Olivia’s favorite part was hanging the snowflake in the window so that Santa could find her. Plus, she loves lights, and the snowflake lights up in different colors when activated.
As she was hanging up the snowflake, I couldn’t help but think of all the kids who are in temporary homes this Christmas, and how they must be wondering if Santa will be able to find them. I thought this was the perfect gift for one of those children, so I picked up an extra snowflake to drop in the toy-drive box at our place of business.
I love creating memories with my family, and these Hallmark Northpole gifts were perfect for helping to create those memories. They now have everything they need to bake cookies for Santa every year. It’s a new tradition for them, and I hope they will continue to keep it and even pass it down to their children someday.
