This easy table lamp makeover is perfect for creating a room you can fall asleep in!
When our youngest daughter, Corrie, was about to turn 18 a few months ago, all I could think about was redecorating her room. I have been seeing so many fun patterns and colors that I just couldn’t wait to get my hands on them and put them in her room.
If it had been up to me, Corrie’s room would already be finished, but, I didn’t want to take a chance on her not liking the bedding, pillows or other decor that I chose.
While Corrie and I were discussing where to draw inspiration from, I suggested blues, silver and white. For one, they are popular right now, and two, she has been having trouble sleeping, and blues are very calming.
The room redecorating has been a slow process, however, we have managed to get a fresh coat of paint on the walls and have already decided exactly how to repaint her dresser, bed, a cool {but ugly} lamp I found at a garage sale and mirrors. I know it’s still going to take a while longer to complete her room, but at least we’ve got a plan, and that’s usually the hardest part.
I have a confession to make. I have been addicted to Amazon.com lately. It’s just so easy to make a purchase with the click of a button, especially with Prime- the shipping is so fast!
The other week, while looking for a lightbulb for the lamp I was going to makeover, I discovered a new kind of bulb from GE. The GE Align PM light bulb. It really intrigued me, so I decided to read up on it a bit.
The NEW GE Align comes in two types of lights. GE Align AM setting puts off a concentrated bluish-white light that suppresses melatonin {the stuff that helps to make us tired} production. Using this light 30 minutes after waking in the morning promotes to the natural wake cycle.
The GE Align PM basically does the opposite. It produces an amber light, similar to candlelight and campfires, and does not disrupt sleep rhythm.
Once I saw how the GE Align PM bulb worked, I knew I needed to order one for Corrie. And, what better lamp to put it in than the one I was already redoing for her room?
This is what it looked like before. It’s in really great shape, brand new, actually, but not at all what I would have chosen for her new decor. But, I knew with a little spray paint I could transform it into something pretty.
I started by unscrewing the weird piece at the end. It’s supposed to be a handle to change the angle of the lamp, but I found it to be big and bulky. Next, I used a metallic silver/chrome spray paint for the base.
Next, I removed the glass shade, which was an ugly yellow, and spray painted it a glossy white.
Because both pieces were dark, they took 2 coats for optimal coverage.
I think It’s going to look great with the other blue, white and silver accents we are adding to her room. We still have a long way to go- bedding, pillows, dresser & bed frame makeovers- but we are off to a great start.
Corrie has been using the NEW GE Align PM light bulb for the past few evenings, and it is helping her sleep better already. All she has to do is turn the light on about 30 minutes beofre she plans on going to bed. The bulb contains very low amounts of blue light which creates a very warm/yellow/orange color which produces more melatonin in the body, helping you rest easier.
Currently, the GE Align PM LED Light Bulb is only available on Amazon.com, but with super easy ordering and fast shipping, it’s a great time saver over having to go to a store to pick one {or two} up.
