This Cozy Flannel Blanket can be made in a day, but will be treasured for a lifetime.
Last Friday I finally got to have stitch n’ bitch with a good friend. It had been a few weeks since we were able to get together, so it was great to spend some time with her.
We had been talking about making gifts this Christmas instead of buying them. Earlier in the year I had decided to make lap quilts {my kids love to cozy-up with them on the couch} Ya, that hasn’t gone so well.
I decided to make flannel blankets instead.
So, of course I had to take a trip to our favorite discount fabric warehouse. Doesn’t everyone have one of those?
They had flannel for just $2.99 a yard, how could I resist? I found some really adorable prints.
I have to say, this is such an easy project, you really could make these last minute!
For my grand-babies {1 and 2 yrs old} I used 2 yards, 1 for each front and back.
I squared the pieces then matched them up right sides together. After pinning them, I started sewing them together with a 1/4 inch seam allowance.
Do not sew completely all the way around! Start in the middle of one of the longer sides, then sew along all the sides until you come to the side you started on. Stop so as to leave about six inches open.
Turn right side out. With a corner tool {a pencil will work, too} make sure your corners are nice and square.
Next, fold in that open seam and pin. Begin sewing shut with a 1/4 inch allowance and continue all the way around the edge of the whole blanket. {This will not only close that open edge, but give you a nice finished look as well}.
Since these blankets were small, I did not sew in the middle area of them. However, you may need to on larger {adult size} blankets, so that they keep their shape.
I manged to wash all my fabric and make three of the blankets on Sunday. {And all before the Bronco game, too!} I have to say, I was very happy about that!
