Coleslaw is a perfect side for any BBQ or picnic, but why settle for store-bought when you can make your own?
My recipe is easy and delicious, just ask my husband.
I’m just as guilty as the next when it comes to taking cooking shortcuts. I start with a bag of pre-shredded coleslaw veggies and make my own dressing.
This dressing is so simple, in fact, I already had all but one ingredient.
You can literally make this side dish in about five minutes, it’s the chill time that gets you.
I suggest making it the night before you plan to eat it, allowing the flavors to blend. Everything tastes better the next day, right?
At the very least, let your coleslaw chill for a good two hours.
Making Coleslaw
Once you’ve gathered your ingredients, use a large bowl to mix the dressing before you add the veggies. This will make it easier to combine the coleslaw.
I love using my spoon spatula for this. Not only do I use it for making coleslaw but I also use it for making my spicy buffalo chicken dip, Neiman Marcus dip, and my spinach ham dip as well.
It makes mixing so much easier and ingredients don’t stick to it as they do to a regular spoon.
We have a running joke about coleslaw in my family. When my son was young, he would mispronounce it, like most kids mispronounce things, and call it cold slop.
To this day, everyone in our family refers to it as such. And yes, it’s cheesy, but we get a kick out of it and it’s a great memory for us.
Tip: Use a spoon spatula to help incorporate ingredients
