Beauty mistakes aren’t always what they seem. We all know the basics, but there are a few that may surprise you. Are you making any of them?
We’ve all made them. I can’t even count the number of times I’ve gone to bed with makeup on my face. My daughter said it was “disgusting”.
Then, of course, there’s the occasional not drinking enough water. But, did you know that some of these mistakes were even really mistakes?

Beauty Mistakes Women Make
Not Getting Enough Sleep –
According to the National Sleep Foundation, adults should get 7 to 9 hours of sleep each night to feel alert and well rested. Lack of sleep can also cause bags, dark circles or redness in your eyes.
Leaving makeup on Overnight –
In addition to the obvious, clogged pours that can lead to breakouts, leaving mascara on while you sleep can cause your lashes to get hooked on pillowcases/sheets and be pulled out.
Washing Your Hair Too Much –
Your hair produces oils that keep your hair moisturized. Over washing can strip your hair of those oils, leaving it dry and dull. Try to wash your hair once every 2-3 days for best results.
Can’t handle going that long without a wash? Use a gentle moisturizing shampoo every other day.
Are You Getting Enough Exercise? –
Did you know the increased circulation and blood flow from exercising 30 minutes a day is beneficial for your complexion? The increased circulation also stimulates the hair follicles, which promotes hair growth.
Exercising regularly can make you feel better about your appearance and yourself, too, which can boost your confidence and improve your self-esteem. Feel pretty, look pretty.
Not Wearing / Wearing Too Little Sunscreen –
Sun damage not only causes “leathery” looking skin, it can cause skin cancer, too. That’s not a look that anyone wants to wear. The American Academy of Dermatology recommends that everyone apply a sunscreen with an SPF30 every day, and an SPF50 before participating in outdoor activities. Giving Your Face All the Attention –
While most of us are diligent about our skincare regimes, many of us forget about our neck and décolleté, the upper chest area, including the neck, cleavage and shoulder areas.
These areas are just as susceptible to wrinkles as your face, and can also benefit from the same skin care regime you follow for your face. (I even use it on my hands!)
Makeup Brush Neglect –
It’s true, you really can neglect your makeup brushes. And I’m not referring to using a blush brush for your loose powder, which I may or may not do. Did you know you should be washing them after each use? As if.
Try for one week or even once a month. Just so long as you wash the bacteria off from time to time. while everyday is ideal, it’s not exactly realistic.
Keeping Makeup for Too Long –
Just like everything else, your makeup needs to be replaced, whether or not it still appears to be in good condition. The main reason? Bacteria, bacteria, bacteria. For specifics on what/when/why, read this article.
Not drinking enough water –
Water is essential in maintaining skin moisture. Additionally, it delivers essential nutrients to the skin cells and replenishes the skin tissue, which increases its elasticity. This is key in delaying the appearance of signs of aging, like fine lines and wrinkles.
Stressing Out –
When you experience stress, your body produces the hormone cortisol. Not only does it accelerate the aging process, it also damages the collagen and elastin that keeps your skin tight, while slowing down the production of new skin growth.
If you begin to feel stressed, try to step away from the situation, take deep breaths, or use essential oil aromatherapy.
