Recently, a blogging friend of mine had a baby girl. A very adorable baby girl. Babies are a huge weakness of mine. Huge. I instantly wanted to make her some burp cloths. I already had the fabric, and since they are super easy to make, knew I could whip them up in no time. I used some fabric I had from these blankets I made my grand babies this past winter. I chose two different floral patterns for the fronts and the same solid green coordinating fabric for the backs.
The fabric was already 11″ wide, so I just cut it at 18″ for the length. I took one piece of flowered fabric and put it together with a piece of the solid green fabric, right sides together. After pinning them, I started sewing them together with a 1/4 inch seam allowance.
Do not sew completely all the way around! Start in the middle of one of the longer sides, then sew along all the sides until you come to the side you started on. Stop so as to leave about six inches open.
Turn right side out. With a corner tool {a pencil will work, too} make sure your corners are nice and square.
Next, fold in that open seam and pin. Begin sewing shut with a 1/4 inch allowance and continue all the way around the edge of the burp cloth. {This will not only close that open edge, but give you a nice finished look as well}.
It only took about 30 min to finish all four of them. They are soft and snugly, perfect for little ones.
Wishes for tasty dishes,
