These 15 household uses for lemons are the most helpful I have found, including cleaning, laundering and health & beauty
Hi friends! When I was at the grocery store the other day, I decided to pick up some lemons. Rather than just picking up a few, I ended up purchasing a whole bag full. Once I returned home, I said to myself, “Self, what are you going to do with all of these lemons?”
Baking and cocktails were the first things that came to my mind, obviously, but then I started thinking of all the other great things lemons are good for that I had learned about over the years, mostly from my mom.
Here’s a list of the uses I have found the most handy:
- Toss used lemon slices or wedges down the garbage disposal to keep it clean and smelling fresh. Running the disposal for a few seconds will release the scent
- Remove fish or onion smell from hands by rubbing with fresh lemons
- Adding fresh lemon juice to rinse water removes soap film from interiors of ovens and refrigerators
- Mix lemon juice 50/50 with water and spray in hair to naturally highlight it in the sun
- Sucking on a lemon helps to settle an upset stomach
- Put lemon slices in hot pedicure water to help remove dead skin from feet
- Rub half a lemon on cutting boards to remove smells and stains
- Gargle with some lemon juice for a sore throat or bad breath
- Slice some lemons, cover with water, and let simmer in a pot for about an hour to give your house a fresh smell
- To renew hardened paintbrushes, dip into boiling lemon juice. Lower the heat and leave the brush for 15 minutes, then wash in soapy water
- For a rust-removing scrub, mix one tablespoon of lemon juice with two tablespoons of salt
- To remove tough stains on clothes, rub lemon juice on them and set in the sun. Recommended for white clothes only
- Boil grimy cotton socks in water with a slice of lemon to get them white again
- Rub kitchen and bathroom faucets with lemon peel. Wash and dry with a soft cloth to shine and remove spots
- Mix the strained juice of a lemon in an eight-ounce glass of warm water; After shampooing, rinse your hair with the lemon juice to make it shine
